The installation stages the inhabitants of Soumagne facing their town hall, as a symbolic warning addressed to the authorities. For three months, a “video photobooth” installed in the town hall records citizens as they come for administrative tasks. The device then travels through local markets and events, gathering a large collection of video portraits that together form an anthropological portrait of the community. Each evening, after nightfall, these images are projected from the windows of a house opposite the town hall. Three projectors display life-sized figures of the inhabitants, appearing like giants watching, silently and vigilantly, over their public institution.

Maison citoyenne

L’installation met en scène les habitants de Soumagne face à leur maison communale, comme une mise en garde symbolique adressée aux autorités. Pendant trois mois, un « photomaton-vidéo » installé à l’administration communale filme chaque citoyen venu accomplir ses démarches. L’appareil circule ensuite sur les marchés et événements locaux afin de constituer une vaste collection de portraits vidéo, offrant une vision anthropologique de la population. Ces images sont projetées chaque soir, dès la tombée de la nuit, depuis les fenêtres d’une maison située en face de la maison communale. Trois vidéoprojecteurs diffusent les silhouettes grandeur nature des habitants, qui apparaissent tels des géants observant, silencieux et vigilants, leur institution publique.
